Unit 4: ILO’s instruments related to gender and the world of work
Introduction
Although most international labour standards apply without distinction to men and women workers, there are a number of Conventions and Recommendations that refer specifically to women. The ILO's standard-setting work in this area is based on two central concerns. The first is to guarantee equality of opportunity and treatment in access to training, employment, promotion, organization and decision-making, as well as securing equal conditions of remuneration, benefits, social security and welfare services provided in connection with employment. The second is to protect women workers especially in relation to conditions of work that may entail risks for maternity.
